The Stats

Price Range: $7-$15 a plate

Domo Arigato, diners! Travelling just a few doors down the street, we arrive at the next stop on our food tour. For those who love the Charm city stamp of down and dirty dives, but don’t want to miss out on terrific eats, Sticky Rice serves their sushi and Asian fusion with a side of hipster grit. And tater tots. With both traditional and New Age Japanese-inspired dishes, one is guaranteed some exotic excitement. Here are a few of my personal favorites from their extremely extensive menu:

The Crazy Calamari: This roll has a distinctive sweet and spicy flavor. The calamari is very mild so I recommend this if you’re new to sushi and have yet to adjust to the more pungent varieties. You can’t trick yourself into thinking you’re eating healthy fish with this one…the calamari is fried, tempura style.

The Goochland: For all of us who love a good Philadelphia Roll (Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese), we’ve leveled up. This Smoked Salmon and GOAT cheese roll packs a bit more of a punch than its Pennsylvanian counterpart.

The Fantabulous Amazing Roll: They weren’t kidding. Two of my favorite types of seafood: tuna sashimi and Maryland crab. Add a dollop of cream cheese and a kick of spice and you’ve got my dream roll.

The Yum Yum: Another one-up to the Philadelphia, this roll includes classic Salmon and Cream Cheese, with avocado as well. Then the whole thing is fried. The frying makes the outside of the roll crispy, while the contents melt together in one gooey, delicious mess

Sweet Potato Tater Tots: So I’m sure you usually order your sushi with a bowl of miso soup, but may I tempt you with a bowl of these sweet and salty tots? They come with a side of specialty tartar sauce, and compliment any Asian meal.

These are just a few of the many great choices on the list. I’m definitely a sushi fiend so I stick to that whenever I go, but savories sandwiches and noodles are also an excellent choice. Also keep your eye out for special events, like Karaoke competitions and other live entertainment. I simply adore everything about Sticky Rice, a great choice for lunch and dinner in one of my favorite parts of Baltimore.
